With massive advancements in information and communication technology, it is hoped that governments will find technology useful in catering to the basic needs of poor and deprived sections of people. But can technology work in the absence of political will? Will it turn out to be another false hope generated to help increase business of IT-CT companies? What should be priority for governments, investments in technology or ensuring compassionate governance?

Technology has its limitations but its role in empowering poor and help governments and agencies to reach poor can not be undermined. Distant education and emergency healthcare through telecom and internet are few examples of technological support poor needs.

Technological advancements have played crucial role in helping millions come out of hunger, sickness and poverty. Without improved seeds, medicines and communication facilities, we can not help poor people.
