Green Champs Camp

Environment education has become the buzzword of the present century. While the human race is progressing by leaps and bounds, the natural world is facing a regression. Sustainable development is yet another buzzword which is catching up in most of the developing countries. Influencing young minds is need of the hour; finally it is going to be their world. Thus, we need to inculcate among our students an appreciation of the biological resources of the country, their use and management, and motivate them for nature conservation.

The Bombay Natural History Society has announced a unique biodiversity conservation programme - Green Champs. The camps are designed to enhance awareness in school children about the importance of nature and the relevance of conservation in our day to day lives. A residential overnight camp will be conducted at the Conservation Education Centre. The camp will include interactive indoor and outdoor activities such as quiz, audio-visuals, nature trails etc. These modules will be based on the standard specific syllabus.

The main objective of the camp is to impart understanding and sensitize students towards nature. The camps will be residential and comprise of a number of hands-on activities. Altogether, there will be 10 camps held, each accommodating a maximum of 50 students from SSC schools

Camp Dates: Camps will be held from September 2009 to April 2010 (on weekends). The first camp will be held on 19-20 September, 2009.

  • Time: First day 9.00 a.m. to second day 3.00 p.m.
  • Group Size: 50 students per camp
  • Venue for Camp: BNHS, Conservation Education Centre, Goregaon
  • Eligibility: Students studying in standards V-IX from SSC Schools are eligible to apply
  • Medium of Instruction: English /Marathi / Hindi
  • Campaign Co-ordinator: Ms. Priti Choghale Sr. Education Officer, Ms. Kavita Kumar, and Mr. Sachin Chorge, Education Officers

LOGISTIC SUPPORT
The students would be provided transport from nearest bus depot, boarding and lodging, educational materials and souvenirs at a minimal fee.
