US budgetary support to preserve Tibetan culture

Despite Chinese warnings to the contrary, US continues to provide support to the Tibetan causes. In his annual budget US President Barack Obama has proposed a USD 7.4 million allocation for preservation of Tibetan tradition and culture in the Tibetan Autonomous Region and other parts of China.

This fund would be made available to the relevant non-governmental organisations to support activities which preserve cultural traditions. It will be directed towards promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation in Tibetan communities.

The US President has also instructed his Treasury Secretary to support any funding projects for Tibet at international financial institutions.
