Editor's Note

As a platform, d-sector.org aims to promote 'public politics', where citizens can attempt to influence policies without being part of politics.

Being a concerned citizen and erudite writer, you feel strongly and think deeply about problems and solutions all around us. Many a time, you feel the urge to share your anger, frustration, excitement, humour, hope and satisfaction with others. At d-sector.org, we attempt to view and analyse development issues from a wider but distinct perspective. If you can raise fresh and stirring questions, and observe beyond the visible, we encourage you to communicate your views to the world through d-sector.org.

We expect you to first send us a brief synopsis (about 300 words) of what you intend to write and why. However, our assent to synopsis will not guarantee publication of the final article/report. We prefer comprehensively edited articles/reports (600 to 900 words) written in simple but interesting language (much better if accompanied by relevant photos). Use facts, figures and logic to back your views and make sincere efforts to cover all relevant aspects while writing and reporting on issues and events.

If you are an artist, you can also contribute your cartoons, sketches, illustrations etc for d-sector.org. You can discuss with us the issue which inspires you to draw. We try to suitably reward our contributors for their creative efforts.

Even if you do not have time to write and draw, you would still be accessing interesting and useful information that you can share with our inquisitive readers. It could be relevant to any page (like quotes, profiles, activities, statistics, news, studies, publications, events, opportunities etc) available on d-sector.org under UPDATES, FEATURES, LEARNING and SERVICES.

What you write may relate to India, or to a different country or region. All writings, relevant to Development Practitioners and the informed general public, are welcome.

So, don't hesitate. If you do have something important to contribute to the public domain, write to: or use the box given at the bottom of d-sector.org Home page.

NB. Editorial prerogative will be exercised by d-sector.org. However, all content contributions will be treated with equal respect. At d-sector we shall strive to maintain high standards of ethics and objectivity. Contributors are expected to align with this by following professional ethics with regard to: credits / reference to source / acknowledgements / integrity of contents. The contributor will be solely responsible for intentional or unintentional duplication of any previously published information or material.

Globally there is consensus among responsible citizens that aggressive marketing of unhealthy food products and beverages endanger health of the next generation. Alarmed by spread of life-style diseases among young people, and the resultant socio-economic costs for the families and the nations, the developed nations have hesitantly begun to put restrictions on production and marketing of less healthy food products. But developing economies are failing to take concrete action out of fear of losing investments by global MNCs. Instead of targeting big companies selling packaged food detrimental to health in the long run, laws are being made to subjugate poor vendors providing fresh food items on the streets and to help expand business of big companies.
